Media Literacy Seminar Brussels, 20-21 February 2020

How can teachers make their pupils more media literate? This two day seminar entitled “Kindling the Media Literacy Flame in Secondary School Educators” for secondary school educators will enhance teachers’ media literacy knowledge and provide them with a practical toolbox and treasure box full of inspirational classroom ideas, based on the newest media literacy teaching techniques and methodology.

This Media Lit Seminar is funded through an Alumni TIES small grant from the U.S. Department of State. Therefore, attendance is free of charge. The seminar will consist of several workshops by international and Belgian experts in the field of media literacy, panel discussions, and opportunities for networking and sharing good practices.

During this seminar secondary school educators will receive hands-on training and practical classroom ideas. Hopefully, bringing these experts and teachers together will create a long-lasting network sharing best practices and tackling stumbling blocks along the way. The participants will disseminate the knowledge in their schools and may invite one of the experts to their community for further training.

The main language of the seminar will be English, as there are international experts and alumni as workshop leaders, to provide the opportunity for all Belgian teachers (from Dutch-speaking Flanders, French-speaking Wallonia and bilingual Brussels) to participate, and to facilitate participation of interested teachers and alumni from other European countries.

The venue, offered by the U.S. Embassy in Brussels, the heart of Europe, is the Hoover-Francqui conference room, located Boulevard du Regent/Regentlaan 40, 1000 Brussels at -1 level.
